During the summer of 2018, graduate students Johanna Weissing and Bailey Green traveled to central Wisconsin and central Minnesota, respectively, to identify and document Nordic-American folk artists. Over the course of six weeks, they conducted interviews with more than 20 folk artists, filming, photographing, and recording the dynamic Nordic traditions in several different communities. You can read more about Johanna’s fieldwork in her photo essay, “Nordic Art on the Minnesota Prairie.” The following year, 2019, Cate Richards returned to take supplementary photographs of several artists.
