Jeanne Doty was raised in a family with a strong Finnish folk music tradition. She went on to become a professional classical musician as well, but still devotes herself to folk music in many ways. She plays fiddle, accordion, and sings.
Johanna Lorbach is the daughter of Jeanne Doty. She grew up with Finnish folk music, and like her mother and some other relatives, also went on to a career in music. She performs Finnish folk music with several groups (including Finn Hall) and also works for the Lyra Baroque Orchestra in St. Paul.
