The band Finn Power is currently made up of married couple Rod Maki and June Johnson. Both come from Finnish areas of the Upper Midwest (Rod from northern MN, June from Brantwood, WI) and often speak Finnish to each other at home. Both have been playing with the Finn Power band for over 20 years, becoming just the two of them around 2014. They play many Finnish folk songs, but also many German, Slovenian, and Czech pieces, as well as more modern “rock” in addition to polkas and schottisches. Rod Maki and June Johnson are also featured in our exhibit, “Traveling Traditions: Nordic Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest.”
