Unfortunately, due to the global spread of COVID-19 and the continued spread of the disease here in Wisconsin, this event has been canceled. The exhibition, “Traveling Traditions: Nordic Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest,” is, however, available online.
The Sustaining Scandinavian Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest project at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is delighted to announce an upcoming one-day symposium on Friday, April 17, 2020. This symposium, “Traveling Traditions: Nordic Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest,” will feature several Nordic-American artists from Minnesota and Wisconsin participating in an afternoon panel-style discussion. The invited artists have all been interviewed and documented by graduate student folklorists over the last three years and will be featured on a set of traveling exhibition panels to be debuted at the symposium. An evening reception will follow the artist panel, featuring hors d’oeuvres, an opportunity to view the exhibition panels and speak to the artists, and music performed by the Minneapolis-based Finnish American band, Laulu Aika. Please join us for a wonderful afternoon and evening of celebrating Scandinavian Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest!
